GWO Working at Height (WaH)

Course Aims 

The aims of this course shall give the participants the necessary basic knowledge and skills through theoretical and practical training to use basic PPE and perform safe work at heights and safe and comprehensive basic rescue from heights in a remote wind turbine environment in accordance with BST Module Working at Heights. Please note that this course is not designed to test the Delegate’s capability and aptitude for working at heights, i.e. it is not a test for fear of heights. 

Course Outcomes 

Upon completion, delegates will receive a GWO accreditation.  This information will be uploaded onto the delegates WINDA Account. The certification is valid for 2 years. 

Prontoport also offer refresher training for Working at Heights. Please note, however, a delegate is only allowed to attend a refresher course in the specific Training Module prior to the date of expiry on the current certificate or training records. If a certificate or training record is expired, the Delegate must attend the full Basic Safety Training Module(s) to obtain a new training record. 

Duration: 2 days or 1 day for a GWO Working at Heights refresher course 

Prerequisites  

There are no prerequisites for this course, however, delegates must be physically fit enough to attend and carry out the practical element of the course. 

Course Content and Key Activities 

  • Personal responsibilities of employees and the self-employed 

  • Overview of relevant legislation (HSW, WAH, MHSW, LOLER, PUWER, PPE 2002, PPEW 1992) 

  • Generic safe systems of work (e.g. permits & procedures) 

  • Wind Turbine Safety Rules (scope & application) 

  • Risk assessments and control measures for WAH

  • Planning of operations for WAH

  • Equipment pre and post use checks, including certification of equipment

  • Safe and correct use of equipment for WAH

  • Equipment identification and selection for WAH 

  • Environmental factors (e.g. weather) 

  • Appreciate relevance of different turbine designs (size/layout) to WAH & rescue situations
