This course is intended for anyone who is required to select and mount Abrasive Wheels and Cutting Discs in the workplace. It will allow candidates to select and mount appropriate discs / wheels for the work they are carrying out. It will also enable candidates to correctly use the machine and dress the wheel and demonstrate an understanding of current legislation.
Upon completion, delegates will receive a Prontoport In House Certificate of Competence. The certification is valid for 3 years.
Duration: ½ Day
Delegates must be reasonably fit, both physically and mentally, to safely control and operate Abrasive Wheels.
Course Content and Key Activities
Risks and Hazards arising from using Abrasive Wheels
Select, store and mount abrasive wheels correctly and in line with the relevant Health and Safety regulations
How to inspect and test abrasive wheels for damage
Learn the correct adjustment of the work rest on pedestal or bench grinding machines
Understand the markings of abrasive wheels with regards to type and speed
Inspect and test wheels for damage, wear and tear etc
Safe and correct use of PPE
Understand the functions of all major/minor components
Methods of marking abrasive wheels with their type, size and maximum operating speed;
Correct, assemble and balance abrasive wheels
Understand the implications of the HASAWA 1974
The proper method of dressing an abrasive wheel (removing dulled abrasive or other material from the cutting surface and/or removing material to correct any uneven wear of the wheel)
