Counterbalance Forklift

Course Aims 

This course provides delegates with basic knowledge and skills required to safely operate a Counterbalance Forklift. 

Course Outcomes 

Upon completion, delegates will receive a Prontoport In House Certificate of Competence. The certification lasts for 36 months (3 years). 

Duration: 3 - 5 days for Novices (Depending on delegate numbers) or  1 day for refresher

Prerequisites  

Delegates must be reasonably fit, both physically and mentally, to safely control and operate lift trucks. With the learning ability and potential to become competent operators; reliable, with a responsible attitude to their work over the minimum school-leaving age (16) 

Course Content and key activities 

  • Carry out a pre-shift inspection 

  • Understand responsibilities under Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 & other current relevant legislations 

  • Components and main types of lift truck 

  • Be able to load and unload vehicles and static racking. 

  • Understand the causes of instability of the truck and loads. 

  • Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations

  • Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations

  • Introduction to machine

  • Controls and instruments 

  • Coolant, fuel and lubrication systems 

  • Re – fueling systems 

  • Coolant, refueling and lubrication systems 

  • Emergency controls 

  • Operators safety code 

  • Handling loaded / unloaded pallets and difficult shaped loads 

  • Understand the causes of instability of the truck and loads 

  • Driving on / off ramps 

  • Weight assessment 

  • Practical test of basic operating skills

  • Written test of operating knowledge
